Migration from rural areas to cities is often driven by inadequate infrastructure, which limits access to basic services, markets, and job opportunities. ILAC’s work in the Dominican Republic has shown that building infrastructure like roads, bridges, safe drinking water, housing, and schools helps reduce poverty and restore dignity to isolated communities. These projects also strengthen community organization and leadership. Organized groups, community leaders, and health partners identify needs and work with ILAC to secure funding and volunteer support for construction projects.
